Samantha Salazar is a senior communication studies major at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, and is the current managing editor for The Rattler.
Salazar graduated from a high school in League City, Texas, where she acted as the editor-in-chief of her school’s newspaper, The Clear Falls Post. After arriving at St. Mary’s, Salazar quickly became a staff writer for The Rattler and, after a semester and a half, was promoted to news editor.
During her time at St. Mary’s, Salazar not only has excelled academically, earning a spot of the Dean’s List, but she has also excelled outside the classroom. She was selected to be a student leader at St. Mary’s freshman orientation, Zaragoza. She was also appointed to represent the president of St. Mary’s at special events as a President’s Ambassador. Additionally, she is dedicated to helping others as a writing tutor and a peer mentor for the Emerging Leaders program.
Salazar’s accomplishments include being inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, receiving The Rev. John G. Rechtien, S.M., Memorial Scholarship and The Sr. Ann Semel Scholarship Fund.
Salazar is passionate about journalism and communication and hopes to put many of the skills she has acquired at St. Mary’s to use in a future career.
